What's coming up and other

I am going to take a break from my blog over the weekend for the holiday. I will be back on Monday. So for next week I know that I will be writing the following.

Top 15 metal vocalists
Twisted Sister-You can't stop rock and roll review
Judas Priest-Sin after sin review

Here's a question for you. It seemed that in the 80's bands mainly toured to promote studio albums. Now a number of bands tour with no album out at all or they put out a greatest hits album and tour. For example, Cinderella have not done a studio album since 1994 yet they have toured
almost every year since the late 90's. Does this bother you at all that bands are doing this? Does it seem like a cheat or is just that the times have changed?

Call me gullible, but I like it. It seems less commercial this way. Although, I know they are probably touring because they don't have any money from non-existent record sales, but at least it doesn't seem like they're getting a doube bite at the apple.

P.S. Thx for stopping by!

Doesn't bother me at all. If all they have is the old stuff. At least they should be polished at doing the old stuff. Have a great break.

Scott Ian has always been one who goes back and forth. Joey Belladonna was fired with very little notice and Ian later blamed him for not having enough of a heavy metal voice. I think it only had to do with album sales. They did an SOD reunion a few years ago even though Ian had once said it would never happened. Billy Milano said Ian had financial problems and begged him to do the SOD reunion. I think that the current reunion was brought on by the fact that their last album didn't sell as well as they hoped. Frank Bello was briefly out of the band for reasons that were never really disclosed yet a year later he, Joey and Dan were back in the band.
I like John Bush a lot. However I also saw Joey Belladonna in 2004 playing in front of 30 people (if that). It was a bit sad, but he was great as he sang and played drums. I got to meet him as well and he wouldn't say anything bad about the guys in Anthrax although he was surprised when he got the boot.

I agree with Fredcq. If they enjoy playing the material, they should continue. Why not make some money off of it. The only time that I would have an issue with this is if one person has the rights to the name and they bring in new members to play with them. A band that I liked from the 70's (not metal at all) is The Cars. Currently they're on tour, but Rick Ocasek is not with then amd Ben Orr is dea. They were the main guys in the band!

Oftentimes(ok, pretty much most of the time), it's all about the money. That said, if these bands go out and play like they mean it, no, I don't feel cheated. If they look like they're just going through the motions, then my answer would be yes.

I think this is an excellent question!

It kind of bugs me when a band tours constantly with nothing new - unless of course they are one of my favorites then I'd want them to do it twice a year!

It just says to me that they aren't evolving, they lost their creativity, they don't have "it" anymore but they need the cash and they need the limelight so they damn well better keep touring to pay the bills and keep their names known The die-hard fans will also go.

I don't mean to sound judgemental cause I would do the same thing if I were in that position, it just makes me feel sad for them.

I've actually thought about this quite a bit...it's always bugged me a little bit. My feeling is that if you're still a band and still touring, you should give the fans some new material.
By the way, Mike, from what I understand about The Cars current tour, Ric Ocasek has given them his blessing and even suggested the singer (I forget who it is). And they're calling it The New Cars, so at least they're not being deceitful.

Doesn't bother me one bit. Many times, I'd go to see a band and they'd play almost all of a new, horrible album and only hit a few highlights of their better stuff. So I don't mind.

Good point in the last comment -- a few bands, like the New Cars, the New Doors, and Queen + Paul Rodgers, are at least honest about the fact that they aren't once they once were.

That's a good point Strutter71. At least you know upfront that it's not the original members.
